Psychology of the Student Learn Mathematics

Mathematics is one of specific sciences. Mathematics learn object which can’t be responded by gods human directly. Substantion of mathematics is the abstract thinking. The object of mathematics is fact, concept, operations, and principles which have function in mathematics to make mathematics thinking process or logic thinking.


The something, we have to understand and concious that not all student have high intellegency. They have different intellegency to learn and understand mathematics. Where, they have a power of thinking fast or low. In the other, student have different talent toward sciences, there are exact or non-exact sciences such us language and social. The student who talent in exact sciences, they will easier to learn mathematics. They believe that mathematics is fun. In stead of the student who talent in non-exact sciences, may be, they don’t like mathematics and they believe that mathematics is sciences which difficult and confious, then they lazy to learn mathematics.


I have experiences about student learn mathematics. This is the story:

“On day, my nephew learns mathematics with me. She is first class of senior high school. She said, “Mathematic is difficult”. Then I question to her, “why do you said it?” she answer, “because mathematic is only numbers and formulas. Almost of mathematics questions are questions of number manipulations, don’t words or sentences to which deliver student thinking in real life.” In the other, she said, “I can do exercise mathematics when I learn alone in the home or learn with you, but when examination of mathematics in the school I can’t do it, in really I get bad score.” Then I question to her, “What are with you?” she said, “because when I before to do it, I feel anxious and what do learn is lost.”


From the story above, I can be concluded that student to learn mathematics need motivation which can to increase her mathematic knowledge. The questions of how to motivate student in the classroom has become a leading concern for teachers of all disciplines. Student motivation becomes especially relevant to mathematics education in light of recurring questions about how to get more students interested and involved in math.

As the teacher, to motivate student learn mathematics, they need innovation in teaching learning mathematics. Such us they teach mathematic which more meaning on the real life. In the classroom, the student are made group to learn together because group activity and collaborative work can help to motivate student by allowing them to share the thinking load and to act as models of planning and strategy use for each other.
