The Psychological Aspect

If the student in confronted with the following questions:
Find the solution of the following square equations with to complete perfect square:
  1. x2+2x=24
  2. x2+8x+10=0
  3. 3x2-2x-5=0
Then, it will appear the every kind of psychological aspect. There are feeling, thinking, and spontaneous of them to responds the questions above.
The aspect psychological if the student is confronted with the questions above are:

  1. The student is explained the subject about square equations
May be they can to do and can't to do the questions above.
The support factor of student so they can to do the questions above, they are:
  • the high interest of student in learning mathematics
  • the student have feeling to know and vexed highly
  • the teacher explain the subject of square equations is easy accepted by students
  • the student have a lot of exercise about mathematics, so they have a lot of experience in finishing about mathematics problems
  • there are intrinsic motivations of student to learn mathematics
  • there are friends' spirit influence to learn mathematics
The pursuer factor of student so that they can't to do the questions above they are:
  • the low interest of student in learning mathematics
  • the student haven't feeling to know and vexed
  • the teacher explain the subject of square equations is difficult accepted by students
  • the student have a little exercise about mathematics
  • there aren't intrinsic motivation of student to learn mathematics
  • there aren't friends' spirit influence to learn mathematics
  1. The student is not explained the subject about square equations yet
May be they can't to do the questions above. The first responds of students, when they is confronted the questions, there are:
  • indifferent, if the student haven't the interest of learning mathematics
  • confuse because the student is never confronted the questions
  • vexed, if the student have high interest in learning mathematics and they like about challenge.

Quantitative Method in Research about the Relation of Student’s Attitude Forward Mathematics Teaching Learning with Mathematics

Mathematics is one of based science which has to commanded by student because mathematics can’t sparable from daily life. It always trought development which straight matchless with science and technology’s progress. More of student don’t aware of that situation because the information about what and how of mathematics in fact. Thus, it can be wrong result at student’s learning process. They only study mathematics with listen teacher’s explanation, know the formula, and then they are more exercise, but never work to understand and look for the fact meaning about purpose of teaching learning mathematics.

So far, the students have negative perception to mathematics as Frans Susilo said in his article of BASIS Magazine which the title is humanistic mathematics that negative attitude forward mathematics because of misunderstanding about mathematics. The negative perception of mathematics is opinion of student that :

1. learning mathematics need special talent

2. mathematics is computation science

3. mathematics use brain only

4. the most important of mathematics is true answer

5. the fact of mathematics is the absolute fact

Teaching learning process in the school, mathematics is one of subject which is taught with extent in every subject. From 5 negative perception that is explanation above result in the student anxiety forward learning mathematics. Examinations are prove that student’s attitude forward teaching learning process mathematics with anxiety mathematics’ student have significant relation.

One of the research result about it is the research about relation of student’s attitude with anxiety of mathematics at class of 5 elementary school Karang Tengah 6 and 7 Ciledug Tangerang. The examination method use quantitative method with use correlation examination. The subject for try out are 48 students and subject for research are 100 students. The measurement is used scale of attitude about mathematics teaching learning and scale of value about mathematics anxiety. Statistic method is used product moment correlation with statistic program SPSS version 11.0. The result of try out to 48 students elementary school in class of 5, scale of student’s attitude forward mathematics teaching learning get 22 statement from 36 statement with realibility coefficient is 0.85and scale of mathematics anxiety get 34 statement from 45 statement with realibility coefficient is 0.91.

The result of research indicate the significant negative correlation between student’s attitude forward mathematics teaching learning with anxiety of mathematics. The result of this research indicate that so much positive the student’s attitude forward teaching learning mathematics then so much low the scale of anxiety in learning mathematics, and so much low student’ attitude forward teaching learning mathematics then so much high the scale of anxiety in learning mathematics.
